21/09/2019 Dowlais Vs Abergavenny Match Report

Dowlais were hosts to 2018 Bowl winners Abergavenny in what turned out to be a most entertaining Cup match.
Dowlais were quickly on the score board with a long range penalty from Steve James.
The Dowlais backs were looking sharp and their first try came after some sharp passing in the back line and Dan Butler breaking into the line to cross in the corner.Another long range penalty from Steve James  put Dowlais 11 points ahead. Abergavenny soon pulled this back with a penalty and a converted try to make it a one point game.
Dowlais were soon back on top with another Steve James penalty and a superb try from Kristian Owen conversion by Steve James.
Steve James added is fourth penalty , and what a difference it makes when the score board keeps ticking over.Kristian Owen added his second try and Steve James the 2 points , the first half was tremendous for Dowlais with man of the match Lloyd Hynes pulling the strings, the half time score was 31-10 to Dowlais . If Dowlais thought the second half was going to be the same they weren soon proved wrong, with this Abergavenny side which was well coached by ex-Welsh International Nathan Thomas using the wind and takeing the game to Dowlais.
Abergavenny were now playing their best rugby of the afternoon and spent the first 20 minutes in the Dowalis 22, Dowlais were certainly glad of their big half time lead with Aber bombarding the Dowlais line , and only  a strong defence from the home side keeping them out.But even this had to break with Abegavenny going over in the corner.
Dowlais managed to break out of their 22 and ease the pressure, and a Steve James converted try made the game safe, and 23 points from the Dowlais no 10.

This Saturday Dowlais entertain a strong Newbridge side k.o.2.30.
