This was a game of missed chances for Dowlais ,and Nelson took theirs.

Nelson opened the scoring with a penalty and Steve James replied with one for Dowlais.

The first Nelson try came when a Dowlais player was cynically pullled back allowing the Nelson player to break through for an easy try.

The Dowlais no8 was hauled down just on the corner flag when a try looked odds on, next the Dowlais pack drove the home eight over the line to touch down only for the referee to be unsighted, this would have put Dowlais back in the game.

A missed tacklel in the Dowlais mid field allowed Nelson their second try and a halftime lead of 15-3.

The second half saw Dowlais defend strongly and attack at every opportunity, they threatened the Nelson line only for the final pass to go astray or knocked on. They kept Nelson down to 3 points in the second half in spite of their possesion but could not crosss their line.
