RUMNEY 9PTS. DOWLAIS 20 PTS.

This was the first visit by Dowlais to Rumney and they were greeted with near perfect conditions although rather warm, and both sides were determined to enjoy themselves in the late summer sunshine.
The home side were soon in front with a penalty from the kick off, when Dowlais were penalised for crossing, and three easy points for Lewis Pearce.
Most of the half was good quality  Rugby from both sides , with attacks between both teams 22 being held up by a strong defence  by the visitors and the home side.
The Dowlais pack had their work cut out to contain the home 8, Rumney were awarded a penalty wide out which proved no problem for Lewis Pearce. Dowlais needed a score before halftime and Steve James obliged from  just inside the Rumney half to make the half time score 6-3 to Rumney. Steve James had to leave the field at the interval with a leg injury, and Lloyd Hynes slotted into the no10 spot.
The first half effort from Dowlais seemed to take the sting out of the home side, and Dowlais started the second period full of intent and from a scrum in the Rumney 22 Lloyd Hynes broke the line with a great break and finding man of the match Matthew Llewelyn on his shoulder and crashed over to  take the lead, Lloyd Hynes added the extras.
Dowlais were rampant and really should have added more tries but the final pass went missing. Rumney made Dowlais pay for their errors when Lewis Pearce added his third penalty and put the home side just a point behind.
Dowlais increased their work rate and a scrum against the head by Chris Williams and the ensuing penalty by Lloyd Hynes put them four points in front.

Dowlais now emptied their bench and it immediatley paid dividends with the amount of possesion won which Rumney had no answer to , with the power bursts of Johnnie Pinch and the sniping runs of Darryl Jenkins.
Dowlais broke from the home 22 and Kristian Owen sliced the home defence and Bleddyn Rees in support scored an excellent try , and from a difficult angle lloyd Hynes added the extras.
This was a tremendous performance by the Dowlais squad and they were good value for this important win.It would be remiss to single out any one player for praise because the squad all played their part, by giving  100% effort, which in this strong league you will be severally punished if you are not switched on and committed.
Saturday Dowlais have another tough encounter away to Llanharan, the Coach leaves at 12.30.
