21/04/2018 Dowlais Vs Croesyceiliog Match Report

Score:

Dowlais: 29

Croesyceiliog: 19

A well earned victory for Dowlais this week as they triumph over Croesyceiliog at home on one of their hottest match days to date.

Most of the heavy action took place in the first half with a total five tries being scored between the sides. An early try from Dowlais’ Lloyd Hynes raised spirits early on even with a failed conversion, but the game soon turned to a back and forth with a converted Croesyceiliog try.

Much of the first half was defined by this back and forth, with Dowlais scoring a converted try scored by Craig Lynch and kicked by Cameron Trowbridge and a non-converted try from Trowbridge himself and Croesyceiliog scoring another converted try.

Overall, save for a few usual missed opportunities and small mistakes, Dowlais came out of the first half strong with a 17-14 lead even after a yellow card on fullback Tom Griffin.

Although a bit slower in comparison to the first, the second half was far from lacking action and points. Although Croeyceiliog scored a well earned try, it simply wasn’t enough to the converted and non-converted tries Dowlais scored in the half, scoring courtesy of Harvey Thomas and Ceri Morgan and the conversion of the second courtesy of Lloyd Hynes.

So overall a solid, if still flawed effort from Dowlais this week. What stood out to me especially was the much more threatening attacking force, with many tries coming from extensive runs and daring offloads rather than the slow scrum-driven tries they usually score.

Hopefully, this will be a good precedent for the last few games of the season.
