Fixture

This game was a credit to two very good sides played in atrocious conditions, with constant heavy rain throughout the game.Both sides provided some excellent play with the ball  used to good effect, and surprisingly the handling from both sides was of a very good standard, as both sides attempted to play running Rugby.

The Squirrels were first to score with an early penalty from Rhydian Morris, this was quickly followed by two Dowlais penalties from Steve James.

Dowlais seemed to have the edge up front but were denied from several 5 meter scrums by a strong Rhiwbina defence.

Dowlais went further in front with a brilliant team try, wing Bleddyn Rees took a high ball in his own half and burst through two attempted tackles linking with Tom Griffin who inturn  put Kristian Owen in space and finding Steve James on his shoulder who went over under the posts, and converting his own try, to give Dowlais a 13-3 advantage at half time.

The second half started with an early Dowlais penalty by Steve James which was quickly followed by his fourth in the match.

Injuries by Dowlais seemed to slow down their momentum and the Squirrels started to claw themselves back into the game, with tries from Dan Traynor and Aron Forey.

Rhiwbina were now going for the winning try but a resolute defence by Dowlais kept them out, and Dowlais finished the game in the home teams 5 meter area trying to make the game safe with their second try, but it was a releif to the travelling Dowlais supporters when the final whistle went.
