PONTYPOOL UNITED 15 pts. DOWLAIS 13pts.

 

This was a game between two evenly matched sides with Dowlais just edged out of earning a draw which on reflection would have been a fair result.

The home team went on the attack from the start and scored a relatively easy try  which would have had the Dowlais defence Coach pulling his hair out.

Dowlais rallied and started to attack the home defence, Nathan Pritchard reduced the arrears with a penalty and hit the post with another attempt. The game was end to end and for the neutral supporter this was how a community game of rugby should be enjoyed with every player giving of their best.

Pontypool United went further ahead  with a well worked forward try.

But the Dowlais pack was not taking a backward step and reduced the deficit with a try from James Howe to make the half time score 12-8 to the home side.

They went further ahead in the second  when Dowlais had a penalty reversed.

The second half belonged to Dowlais  but the Pontypool defence was reminiscent  of the game   between Wales and France  last night  where they tackled everything the was thrown at them. With time running out Dowlais launched one last attack and were rewarded  with a try in the corner by Kyle Prosser, it proved a difficult conversion attempt which would have resulted in a drawn game which would have been fair on the afternoons performance by both sides.

The coach will point out no doubt in training how expensive that reversed penalty was.
