Dowlais: 15
Abertillery BG: 3
A much needed win for Dowlais this week as they earn a 15-3 win against Abertillery at home.
For the most part, it was a slow game. Apart from the quick tries scored by Marcus Clyne and Darryl Jenkins (with the first being converted by Steve James), it was a back and forth throughout with both sides getting painfully close to the try line only to be foiled at the last minute by a spilt pass or penalty conceded.
This game saw some improvements on many fronts that Dowlais has suffered with for a while, such as an over-abundance of penalties and misguided kicking in play. While these problems did persist, mainly near the end as the cold tired both sides, an improvement was nice to see after all the games that had been lost to these mistakes.
On the other hand, both sides had almost uncountable chances to score only to be ruined by silly mistakes. Going into the second half of the season, these mistakes could really cost Dowlais and be a problem if they find themselves in a relegation fight.
