16/12/2017 Ynysybwl Vs Dowlais Match Report

YNYSYBWL 21PTS. DOWLAIS 29PTS.

Dowlais strarted this game in great style and with their pack dominant were quickly two tries up in 10 minutes. The first try came when the Dowlais pack shunted the Bwl eight over their line allowing Captain Dan Snape to touch down , Steve James adding the conversion, the second try was much the same with the home pack going backwards at a rate of nots, and this time scrum half Darryl Jenkins touching down , and Steve James adding the extras.
If Dowlais thought this was going to be a cake walk Ynysybwl had other thoughts, realising they were losing the battle up front, they launched their accomplished back line who swept up field to score a tremendous converted try.
Dowlais then matched them with a gem of a try , running from their own half with every back involved, and Kristian Owen touching down under the sticks , for an easy 2 points for Steve James.
It then looked as if Dowlais would obtain a try bonus point before hallf time , but the Bwl are made of sterner stuff, and back they came with another good try to make it 21-14 to Dowlais at half time.

With the Dowlais pack dominant and the home side running out of props , it came down to the dreaded passive scrums which allowed the home side to take advantage, and with their no10 Mackintosh pulling the strings and controlling the game , and threating the Dowlais line with every attack,it was only a brave Dowlais defence which kept them out with man of the match Adam Cullen tackling every thing that moved in an Ynysybwl shirt.
A Steve James penalty moved Dowlais to more than one score in front, which proved to be important.
The home side was now chasing the game and they scored their third converted try to put them within touching distance of Dowlais .
With time running out Dowlais laid seige to the home line to try and score that all important fourth try, the Bwl were now hanging on, and their hooker did not help things when the red mist came down and he punched his opposite number, with the referee showing him the red card.
It was now wave after wave of Dowlais attacks against a determined home defence who repulsed every Dowlais effort.
With the last play of the game Dowlais switched their attack to the right and with superb handling allowing right wing Daniel Butler to use his speed and out pace the retreating defence and score that all important fourth try, in the last second of the game, which was a long wait after their third try, but all credit to Ynysybwl for taking Dowlais to the wire in a very entertaing game.
The next home game will be Brynmawr on 30th, December K.O. 2.30 everyone at Dowlais RFc wish all players , supporters, members and sponsors compliments of the season.
