The beginning of Dowlais' new season ended unfortunately in a narrow defeat at the hands of Ynysybwl thanks to a last minute try that sealed their defeat by 1 point, ending with a score of 26-25 to Ynysybwl.

Dowlais' three tries were scored by second row John Davies, number 8 Daniel Snape and Lloyd Hynes, with two being converted by Steve James, who also kicked two penalties. With Ynysybwl scoring four tries with three conversions.

Although they were on top for the majority of the game, Dowlais' persisting problem of giving away too many penalties ultimately led to the defeat, culminating in two yellow cards in the final minutes to John Davies and Marcus Clyne.

Ignoring the penalties, Dowlais simply missed too many opportunities. Dowlais can at least leave their first game with a losing bonus point to their name.
