DRAGONS DEFEAT BONYMAEN IN PLATE

DOWLAIS RFC 25pts. BONYMAEN RFC 13pts.

This was an  excellent Cup Tie between the East and the West, both teams deserve credit in the standard of play in damp conditions.
Dowlais opened the scoring with a sweeping move involving the backs and forwards alike, Bleddyn Rees made the telling break to put Kristian Owen in at the right hand corner, Steve James adding the extras.
Dowlais were attacking at every opportunity, and a break by Darryl Jenkins who linked with Lloyd Hynes and with  fullback Tom Griffin on his shoulder who took the  ball at pace to cross in the corner, Dowlais were 12 points up in as many minutes.

Bonymaen now started to win ball on a regular basis and were getting the better of the exchanges and were rewarded with two penalties from Lawrence Thomas, and it took the halftime score to 12-6 to Dowlais.

Dowlais needed to score first in the second half to maintain their momentum , and this they did with an enormous penalty from the halfway by Steve James.
Bonymaen put in a dogged performance and Dowlais had to be on top form to keep them out.

The third try came from the home side when Lloyd Hynes made a break chipped ahead and the ball luckily for Dowlais rebounded from the Bonymaen centre into the welcoming arms of the Dowlais centre who cantered over the line. Steve James adding the extras,

Dowlais were now 22-6 in front and the game seemed theirs, but battling Bonymaen came back with a try from hooker Mike Hughes who showed a great turn of speed to cross under the posts and Lawrence Hughes converting.

So 13-22 and Bonymaen were  back in the game , but a penalty late  in the game by Steve James  put the result out of sight for the visitors.

The packs were evenly matched in the set pieces but the Dowlais backs had the edge and took their scoring chances which the visitors failed to do.

Dowlais will be back in League action on the 12th. November away to Llantwit Fardre but with an early kick off due to the Autumn Internationals
