DRAGONS NOT QUITE 100%

DOWLAIS 21pts. MOUNTAIN ASH 27pts.

This was a terrific game with two evenly matched sides giving 100% effort and commitment, both sides scored 3 converted tries, only for the Old Firm to snatch victory with two monstrous penalties from Will Holley, which deserved to win any game, and take the unbeaten tag from Dowlais.
Mountain Ash opened the scoring from a driving maul with Ross Davies touching down, Holley converting.
Dowlais hit back with a gem of a try the ball being worked across the line from a lineout and Jake Howard picking a devastaing line and out paceing  the retreating Mount defence to cross under the posts, Steve James adding the two points.
The game was end to end both sides having chances, but Mount took the lead through a try by centre Alex Hughes who wrong footed the Dowlais defenders, Holley converting, to make the half time score 14-7 to the visitors.
Dowlais started the half on the front foot and were soon level , the Dowlais pack drove the Mount eight over their line allowing Simon Griffiths  to touch down , Steve James converting from wide out to bring the sides level.
Both sides went for the winning score but Mount took the lead for the third time when a gap opened up in the Dowlais defence allowing no10 Kieran Olden to canter through under the sticks and an easy two points for Holley.
But the Dowlais side is made of sterner stuff these days and their never say attitude once again bore fruit with scrum half Darryl Jenkins squeezing over in the corner after the Dowlais eight once again shunted the Mount eight over the line, Steve James converted from the touchline to bring the scores level once more.
Entering the final minutes a draw seemed a fare result, but Dowlais once again gave away two dubious penalties , and Will Holley duley obliged by kicking Mount into a win, and their supporters believed they had got out of jail.
Although losing against Mountain Ash who have been around Division One for several years  Dowlais gave a good account of them selves and are certainly not out of their depth in this very tough division.
Saturday sees the visit if Bonymaen in the WRU NATIONAL PLATE COMPETION ROUND 2 k.o. 2.30.
