Match Report
16 October 2016 / Team News

The final scoreline does not reflect on the closeness of this game with the eventual winner in doubt until the closing minutes  of this match , and once again proves how tough this League is.
The first ten minutes was fairly even with both sides intent on open rugby.
Dowlais opened the scoring with a gem of a try by Jake Howard, Dowlais was on the verge of crossing the white wash when they knocked on when they only had to touch down, the ball was cleared by the home no9 Z. Bartlett to clear their lines , the ball was cleanly  taken by wing Jake Howard who proceeded to jink and twist Shane Williams like and mesmerised the Quins defence to score what could be the try of the season, it was fantastic , Steve James adding the extras. The Quins were kept in the game with three penalties from no10 R. Morgan, Steve James replied with three points to make the halftime score 13-9 to Dowlais .
The second half was played in torrential rain which made handling difficult, but both sides used the ball intelligently.Dowlais attacked down the left wing where man of the match Jake Howard was on hand to touch down in the corner.A Steve James penalty put Dowlais 24-9 in front and seemingly home but not dry.
The Quins now took the iniative with Dowlais taking their foot off the gas, and giving away needless penalties , four from back chat to the referee, will players ever learn.A penalty from R. Morgan, then from sustained pressure on the Dowlais line the very effective Quins No8 O. Fitzpatrick scored a well deserved try converted by Morgan , who then went to add another 3ponts to make it a two point game , with Dowlais needing to go up a gear and clinch the win.
The Quins were now going for the win but a resolute Dowlais defence kept them at bay. Dowlais worked themselves into the home 22 where the ball was won and backs and forwards handled with great skill, and the defence breaking run from hooker Chris Wiliamas enabled no 10 Steve James to  score the match winning try, and his conversion took a losing bonus point from the Quins.
The Dowlais coaches must be very pleased about the fortitude showed by their squad and the spirit never to give up, but they need to look at the unnecessary penalty count and back chat.
Saturday sees the visit of Mountain Ash and another tough game K.O. 2.30.
It would be pleasing to see the residents turn out in force to witness  the Rugby on offer with this exciting team .
